Description

Two hundred years ago, the early Catholic church in Singapore was built upon the selfless efforts of
clergy missionaries who came from faraway countries. They have contributed significantly to the
welfare of our society by building schools, hospitals, and charitable organizations. Through these
humanitarian efforts, the Good News of Jesus Christ has touched many hearts and brings about
conversions of many to Christian faith. Now the baton has been passed to us, the lay Catholics in
Singapore, to continue this work of evangelization, as Our Lord has mandated “Go, therefore, make
disciples of all the nations” (Matt 28:19).

But, how do we continue to bring God’s love to all nations in the midst of our busy schedule and
challenges in this modern time? Have you ever wondered if a one-off or infrequent trips achieves any
mission objectives? Indeed, we the laity need a new model of mission.

In this event, our Teach n Learn lay volunteers will share on their personal missionary experience and
how it affects their faith journey. We will also listen to the testimony from our students and the local
school community in Riau islands on how the Teach n Learn program has benefitted them. Finally, we
will have an open forum to address any pertinent questions from the audience on the mission work.
So, come and join us for this interactive event.

About Epiphany
Epiphany is a CHARIS Member Organisation and mission group from the parish of the Church of The Immaculate Heart
of Mary, Singapore. Prior to Covid-19 pandemic, our Teach n Learn program volunteers travelled to
Riau islands in Indonesia fortnightly to teach English language to less privileged children who reside at
boarding schools. As we wait for the pandemic to recede, we aim to increase awareness on overseas
missionary work by taking part in the Catholic200SG celebration this year. We trust that God will allow
us to continue our overseas mission in His perfect time.
